Lawrence Martin Howe

With great sadness we announce the passing of Lawrence Martin Howe (Larry), age 84, on November 30th, 2017 due to complications from cancer. Larry was the very devoted and much-loved husband of Lucy Joan (nee Parker), who cherished their 61 years of marriage. He was the dearly loved father of Gillian Stoute (Dave) of Windsor, ON, Russell of Kincardine, Krista Cadoreth (Dennis) of Deep River and Darren (Mary Ann) of Ottawa. Larry was truly cherished by all 11 of his grandchildren; Jade, Ryan, Heidi, Rory, Alexandra, Kristen, Noah, Jena, Kiana, Sophie and Kieran. He will be greatly missed by brother-in-law John Parker and his wife Carol of Victoria, B.C. and life long friends Eric Bodin of Kimberly, B.C. and Lyle Robertson of Victoria, B.C. Born in Kimberly, B.C. in 1933, Larry met Lucy through close mutual friends while attending U.B.C. in Vancouver. They married in 1956 and moved to Deep River in the same year after they both accepted positions at A.E.C.L. Larry immediately fell in love with the area and immersed himself in the many clubs and activities with basketball, curling, golf, canoeing and skiing being greatest passions. L.M. Howe published over 200 articles during his career as a metal physicist. He was a visiting scientist at Harwell and at Cambridge in England where he established friendships that lasted a lifetime. In 1985 he won the Canadian Metal Physics Award. Larry will be forever remembered as a true gentleman who always had time and infinite patience for his family and as a man whose smile was always the biggest when he was perched on the top of his favorite ski hill or seated in the stern of his canoe, on a gorgeous lake, on a sunny day. A life well lived. A memorial service will be held at the Deep River Community Church on Saturday, the 9th of December at 12 noon. An Irish wake will immediately  follow at the Bear’s Den in Deep River. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deep River and District Hospital Foundation at foundation@drdh.org

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Larry from Dad (always Lawrence to us). Their friendship meant the world to dad and I know that the yearly visits to Kimberley will be missed as will the periodic phone calls. The friendship lasted a lifetime and was genuine and appreciated.

My best to the family who feel the loss of a kind and gentle man.

My sympathies to Lucy, and all those who loved him.

To the Howe Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. I was so saddened by the news of "Mr Howe" passing away. I used to pass Larry many times as I think we had the same walking route. He always greeted me with a huge smile and hello.
I pray your memories will heal you in weeks to come,
Tammy

Krista and Family,

My deepest condolences go out to your family during this difficult time. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Lawrence, but I have heard that he was a wonderful man. May you take comfort in knowing his soul is at peace, and he lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Lisa

To the family and friends,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one.
After God cleans off the earth of all the wicked people, then he will bring our loved ones back to life. At that time there will be no more sickness, old age or death. Please read Psalm 37:9-11, 29 and Isaiah 33:24. Revelation 21:4 says: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
If you would like a free Bible study to bring you comfort, you may ask any one of Jehovah's Witnesses to make arrangements.

To the entire Howe family: Just wanted you to know I am thinking of you all at this time. I have it on good authority that the ski conditions are always perfect and water always calm in Heaven! You are blessed to have so many family members in whom Larry will carry on! Love to all of you!!!

To the Howe Family,

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Lawrence and thankful that you had many years of visiting Kimberley and remaining so much in touch with the heart and soul of that community. Richard (Dick) often spoke of his admiration for Lawrence and his tenacity and intelligence that resulted in an outstanding career.

Dick passed away in October 2014 and want to reach out to you on his behalf. It's not easy to say good-bye and thank heaven for the memories.

With sympathy,
Virginia Garossino and family
