Betty Jean O’Shaughnessy (nee Fenn) strongly and efficiently and with grace and style swam her last lap this week. She died comfortably and peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025 after an arduous journey with Cancer. Betty leaves behind her husband Darrel (Steve) her High School sweetheart, her daughter Kimberley Jean of Galetta, and her Son Steven of Invermere BC, both explorers and adventurers, and two wonderful Grandchildren Jasper and Sloan. “We will sadly miss you Nana B.”
Betty will be remembered by her friends and neighbours, especially in Deep River as an avid swimmer and Teacher, by the Kelowna Dragon Boat Team the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and for her work and dedication to the Arnprior Dragon Boat Club. Her piercing call-out “Shut Up and Paddle” always provoked a smile and sudden burst of enthusiasm. However, her greatest love, next to Darrel (Steve) of course, was her Prior Ukulele Group, the “PUG’s” which she was so proud of. In fact, she was best known by the Group as the BOSS, move over Bruce Springsteen. She cherished and respected each member and they in turn made her proud and honoured in return.
Betty was so proud of her children Kimberley and Steven throughout her life and wanted them to pursue their dreams and ambitions and she always encouraged them every step of the way, and through thick and thin, she’d whisper, “Always be strong and hold your head high.” “Thank you Kimberley and Steven for making my journey through life exciting, nourishing, and yes, even adventuresome every step of the way”. “You will always be with me.”
Betty’s final arrangements have been entrusted to the caring team at the Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior where visitation will take place on Saturday morning, February 22nd from 9 to 10:40 a.m. A Service to honour and pay tribute to Betty will follow in the Pilon Family Chapel at 11 o’clock. In Betty’s memory, please consider a donation to the Men’s Shed of Arnprior, Braeside and McNab.
