It is with sad hearts but profound gratitude for her life that the Leclair family announces the death of their loving matriarch, Cathy. She died peacefully on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 in her 71st year, with her loving husband of 48 years, Paul Marcel Leclair, at her side. She will be deeply missed by her siblings Susan (Bentley Jarvis), Christopher (Moira Sisson), Paul (Alison Ferguson), James (Brenda Davies), Anne (Douglas McIntyre) and her beloved children Sara (Andrew Allingham), Michelle (Patrick Blais), Jon Paul (Gabrielle Bourdeau) and James (Jessica Thirgood). Her legacy continues within her 7 cherished grandchildren (Emma, Liam, Jackson, Arya, Adélie, Chloé, and Elliott) and the fur babies, Ruby, Léo, Dexter, Moose, Chili, and Pixel.
Although she was born in Leeds, England, Cathy grew up in Deep River, ON surrounded by the love and support of her family and late parents, John and Florence Davies. Cathy studied Veterinary Technology and dedicated her entire working career to the care and treatment of animals (Blair Animal Hospital for 15+ years and the Ottawa Humane Society until her retirement). During and after work, Cathy was the tireless personal consultant to her family and friends for any vet related queries.
Family was at the core of Cathy’s life. A smile never left her face when she was surrounded by friends and family at her home in Limoges, her children’s houses or near the sparkling water at the cottage. She loved to travel and spoke often of her adventures to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and road trips across Canada and to North Carolina. Cathy loved the sun and the ocean with an endless beach to walk, a gentle wind, and a sunset.
People were drawn to Cathy’s down-to-earth nature and openness. She was kind, had a great sense of fun and was well-known for her fierce loyalty and spirited, sassy manner.
We are blessed to have shared so many years with this strong, smart, compassionate, funny, high-octane powerhouse of a woman whose only regret was that she still had so many adventures to experience. She lived large and loud and stood strong in the face of challenges – equal parts get ‘er done and cuddle up on the couch. Cathy leaves us knowing what it is to be deeply loved.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the amazing staff on the leukemia floor and in the ICU of the Ottawa Hospital for their compassionate care of Cathy during her too many visits. Donations can be made in Cathy’s memory to the Ottawa Humane Society.
A private graveside ceremony for family and close friends will be held at 11:30 on May 9th, 2026. Following the ceremony, a celebration of life including luncheon and open house will be held at 7 Wolfe Ave (Deep River) starting at noon.
