Donald Paterson Morrison
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Paterson Morrison, on March 30, 2021 at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Lampit). Loving Father of Kathleen Selkirk (Brett) and Fiona Morrison (Tim Tremblay). Proud Grandpa of Joey, Robin, Lauren and Rebecca. Dear brother of Alex (Maureen) of Midsomer Norton, Ian (Sally) of Scarborough and Ken (Joyce) of Montreal. Predeceased by his brother David Morrison and sisters Betty James, Mary Stewart, Sheena Morrison, Rhoda Morrison and Patty Purcell. Don will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Donald was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1944. When he was 12, the Morrison family immigrated to Canada, making their home in Verdun, Quebec. After graduating from Verdun High School, he attended MacDonald College and trained to be a teacher. Don married Sue in 1967 and they moved west to teach in Prince George, BC. While living out west, Don took a break from teaching and enrolled at the University of Alberta where he obtained his PhD in Genetics in 1977. This accomplishment led him to being hired as a Radiation Biologist at Atomic Energy in Chalk River. Don, Sue and their two little daughters, Kathleen and Fiona, moved to Deep River in December 1977 and very soon it was evident that this was where they wanted to make their home. Don’s first love was his family. He was so proud of his daughters and grandchildren. He loved having the grandkids visit, whether it was in Deep River in the summer, or Florida during March Break. Getting together was always a highlight for him.
Don’s favourite pastime was golf. He loved golf! Not only did he love to play the game, but he enjoyed and participated in all aspects of the sport. He spent many hours at the Deep River Golf Club helping to run and organize events and activities. He served in many positions as a Board member of the Club including in recent times, his biggest challenge and the position he enjoyed the most, that of Bookkeeper and Director of Finance.
Don will be sorely missed by all his friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.cpff.ca) or the Deep River and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
