Donald Yee Park
October 24, 1936 ~ May 26, 2019 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Donald Yee Park
Retired Doctor (also SuperHero, Scotch aficionado, and Founder of Park's Law)
Suddenly, on May 26, 2019, somewhere between Mont Tremblant and the hospital in Ste-Agathe QC, Don Park, age 82, shuffled off his mortal coil and went to the big Chinese Buffet in the sky, joining his brothers and sisters Jesse, Harry, Pearl, Jim, Chuck, Bob, and Ken. We're pretty sure he left so hastily in a dramatic bid to escape the current Ontario government, much as he was quick to tell you a joke about it. Or maybe the cream corn and garlic chicken wings are just better up there. Either way, his frog impression is decidedly impressive and if Park’s Law holds, Important things are now Happening in the afterworld.
He is survived by his wife, Clare, and he lives on in their four children Michelle (Randy Walker), Monica, Melanie, and Donald (Peggy Kalogris), all of whom he generously supported and counselled, often proudly boasting that none had ever been incarcerated. Cherished Grampa to seven grandchildren, who (mostly) seem to have escaped ever being hung on a door. He will also be deeply missed by his sister Betty, and a busload of extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation. He will be cremated and his ashes will reside on some family member’s mantelpiece indefinitely, keeping him on the right side of the grass, somehow.
Recounting his life and accomplishments would take far too long, and he touched so many lives in so many different ways. How can this be encapsulated in only a few paragraphs? And so, the family invites you to a celebration of his life -- A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Bears Den, Deep River, details to be published in a future edition of the NRT -- please come and share your stories. If you cannot attend, raise a glass of your favourite drink in his memory, and don't forget to toast, "Here's to me!"
Instead of flowers, Don would hope for a random act of kindness or a donation to a worthy charity like Doctors Without Borders or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Heartfelt thanks to all the lovely folks who have been there for him, especially over the last year. Too many to name -- you know who you are.
Do not cry now that he is gone; feel joy that you have known him. And laugh, because it’s what he would have wanted. Doctor's orders.
