Elaine Tennant (nee Cuthbert) beloved wife of the late Thomas George Tennant and daughter of the late Ken and Margaret (nee MacDonald) Cuthbert of Chalk River. Elaine was born August 1, 1929 in Chalk River. Loving mother of the late Marilyn Elaine Tennant, Marjorie Eunice Kellow (Colin) of Chalk River, Keith Thomas Tennant (Christine, nee Teichman) of Niagara Falls, and Douglas Charles Tennant (Barbara Jean Tilson) of Chalk River.
Cherished grandmother of Sheri Lynn Sundelin (Duane), Jamie Kellow (Jaime Bailey), Jason (Jessica, nee Francouer), Nicole Fray, Daryl Tennant, Hannah Tremblay (Cody), Seamus Tennant (Sophie Contant), and Mariah Tennant (Joe Lemieux). Great-grandmother to Julia Kellow, Delanie Kellow, Kristen Tennant, Gavin and Hayden Fray, Maddison Tennant, Ethan, Logan and Jake Kellow and Tommy Tremblay. Great-great grandmother to Taelyn.
Dear sister of Marjorie Lister (the late Len) of Milton ON, Charles Cuthbert of Moose Jaw SK. Pre-deceased by her brothers William (Nancy) of Arnprior, Gordon ‘Mugs” (Mary Pat) of Chalk River, Glenn (Jane) of Kingston, Thomas (Judy) of Pembroke.
A large part of Elaine’s family was also comprised of many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews up and down the line here in Renfrew County and around North America.
Elaine was a proud employee of Howards Store in Chalk River and Canada Post offices in Chalk River and Cumberland ON. She was Past President of Renfrew County United Church Women and a steadfast supporter of St. Andrew’s United Church in Chalk River having served on various committees and a member of the choir. Elaine promoted and supported her community over the years through her authorship of her memoirs detailing growing up in Chalk River and involvement with youth in ‘Explorers’, serving on the Board of Directors of the North Renfrew Long Term Care Centre, attending functions of and financially supporting the Renfrew County United Way.
Family and the memories associated with all that family entails was important to Elaine. In recognition of the special place in her heart for families, Elaine established two memorial funds including the Thomas “Tucker” Tennant Memorial Fund and the Ken and Margaret Cuthbert Family Fund under the auspices of the Deep River and District Community Foundation.
The family is very appreciative of the loving care provided for Elaine by staff at Riverview Heights Residence in Pembroke and by Doctors McVey and Noulty, the Personal Support Workers, Maintenance, Custodial and Nursing staff at Four Seasons Lodge in Deep River. A special note of appreciation is given to the kind, loving, and caring palliative care volunteers associated with Four Seasons Lodge. Their selfless, generous, and most welcome support in the last few days was a blessing for Elaine and her family.
A private funeral service will be held on Monday February 7, 2022 at St. Andrew’s United Church in Chalk River ON. Interment will be in the spring, beside her husband Tom and with her daughter Marilyn in Forest View Cemetery at Chalk River.
