Elizabeth Joan Anderchek
Elizabeth (Betty) Marie Joan Anderchek (Rose) peacefully in her home surrounded by love on November 3, 2023
She is predeceased by her much loved husband of 64 years, Julian (Chuck)
Devoted mother to Chrissy (Toronto) and Randy (Connie) & Tracey of Deep River; extremely proud grandmother of Joshua (Allison) of Belleville
Predeceased by her sister Carol Ann; survived by Mary (Randy) of Stittsville and Joe (Rita) of Pembroke.
Betty moved to Deep River in 1946 and after marrying her one and only stayed home to raise her family. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter & crocheter and in her “spare time” she made everything from bathing suits to wedding dresses. She always had the best dressed & matched kids in town. Cop cars regularly pulled up to the house to collect repaired uniforms. And the staff at The Dairy always looked extra spiffy in the uniforms she made for them.
Her community involvement included volunteer work of over 50 years with the CWL; Girl Guides of Canada as a leader; craft helper at St Mary’s Home & North Renfrew Long Term Care.
But her biggest contribution of time was to the Deep River & District Hospital. As a craft coordinator for the gift shop she organized countless donations, many sewn, crocheted or knit by her own hands. She was also a long time Whistle Stop coordinator, spending countless hours organizing, sorting and making signs.
But the truest reflection of how important the people in her community were to her came during the recent pandemic. Countless masks and cover gowns were sewn with donated supplies and offered free of charge to community members & medical staff. Her only charge- a donation to the food bank or a charity of their choice, if they were able. She saved a lot of health care workers ears with her crocheted “ear savers”.
Much as she loved flowers, a donation to The Deep River & District Hospital and it’s “Closer to Home” campaign or the North Renfrew Long Term Care in her memory would be gratefully appreciated.
