Evan Davis Graham

May 21, 1950 ~ April 24, 2020 (age 69)

Evan Davis Graham

Suddenly at his home in Deep River on April 24 2020.

Son of the late Bob and Charlotte Graham of Deep River.  Beloved brother of Diana McElroy (Bob),  Laurentian Hills, Ontario, and of Hugh Graham, Scarborough, Ontario.

Evan was born and raised in Deep River, and subsequently moved to Waterloo where he ran an independent business before obtaining a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.  After earning an MSc in Systems Design also from U of W, he spent five years as Research Projects Manager for the university’s Engineering Education Research Centre.

He then moved to B.C., living first in Burnaby and then in Port Moody, and obtained a PhD in Kinesiology, focusing on human/machine interface, from Simon Fraser University.  He acted as Director of Technology for a high tech startup in Vancouver for several years, then ran a consulting service (Usable Solutions Ltd.) and founded Human Interface Technologies Inc., a BC R&D company, as well as lecturing part time at Simon Fraser.  Evan very much enjoyed the B.C. lifestyle and spent his free time cycling, kayaking, hiking, camping, skiing, and above all playing tennis.  A few years ago his health declined and he returned to live in Deep River.

While Evan was a very “technical” person, he was also a very talented musician. Before departing for university, he was active in the local music scene, playing lead guitar for a succession of rock and roll bands in the upper Ottawa Valley in the late 1960s and early ‘70s.  While his primary instrument was the guitar, he seemed to be able to play any instrument he picked up.  As he matured he moved on to classical guitar, and finally his tastes turned to jazz.  His other passion was tennis.  He learned to play tennis at the Deep River Yacht and Tennis Club in his teenage years and those skills stood him his entire life.  At the time of his death, he was the Commodore of the DRYTC.

Cremation has taken place according to Evan’s preferences.  Due to the current pandemic situation there will be no visitation or service.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River.
