Garnet Stewart Obituary

Garnet passed away peacefully and gently at the age of 67, in the Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital, in the wee hours of December 20, 2024, surrounded by his family and close friends.  Son of the late Ronald Thomas Stewart and Neirdre Anne McAuley, loving brother of Susan Krukowski (Stewart) and her husband Andrzej, loving uncle of Craig Fisher, Jeffrey Fisher and wife Laura, Bolek Krukowski and wife Veronica Cruez, and Aleksander Krukowski, loving great-uncle to Jack, Patrick, Fiona, Izabella and Lukasz.

Garnet, ‘Grizz’ was an amazing man, loved and respected by all who knew him.  He was a gentleman, kind, loving, and always held out a helping hand to those who needed it.  He was rich in friends and family, and kept them all close, some friends for over 60 years.  He was much loved, and touched the hearts and lives of so many.  He made friends wherever he went, across Canada, and around the world.  His infectious mischievous chuckle, the deep three-syllable belly laugh, the dry, ready wit, and kindness, will always be remembered.   He was an Operator and then Trainer at OPG for over 40 years, and was renowned for his knowledge of the plant and every piece and component in it.  A Pickering plant “whisperer” they said.  Don’t know?  Ask Grizz.   He loved the people, and the work.  He thrived on it.

The good ones are always taken too soon. He left a big hole in all our hearts.  We will never forget him.  He lived his life on his own terms, full of good times and laughter, and, of course, Rum.  Everybody has a Garnet “rum” story.  He will be forever missed.  As one friend said, “He doesn’t have to listen for the bell.  His wings were waiting for him.

Friends may call at the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River on Saturday, December 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Sunday, December 29 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in Forest View Cemetery, Chalk River in the spring.
