Guy Lemire Obituary

In Loving Memory of Guy Gaston Lemire,

Guy Gaston Lemire, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away in his home with his family at the age of 93. Born in Drummondville, Quebec, in 1930, he was the eldest son of Constant and Estelle (Belair) Lemire.

Guy was the beloved husband of the late Mabel Alice Lemire (nee McGillis) and a dear friend of Gene Lemieux. He is survived by his children: Dianne Lemire (Russell McQuestion) of Laurentian Hills, Linda (Allan) Bernardi of St Thomas, and Steven of Vancouver B.C. He leaves behind a legacy of love as the grandfather of Grant and Eric McQuestion, Nicole, Louis, and Drake Bernardi, and the great-grandfather of Eli McQuestion. Guy was the brother-in-law of Gisele Lemire of Valleyfield, Que.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter Joanne and younger siblings Viator (Vic), Marcel, George (Shirley), Carmen (Gilles Doucet), Claudette (Jean-Guy Myre), Laurent, and Antonio.

Guy will be deeply missed by numerous family, friends, nieces, and nephews, many of whom gathered at his waterside home for great get-togethers.

Guy was grateful for his life and loving wife, Mabel, family, friends, career, volunteerism, hobbies, and home.

He was proud of his long career with NRU, which evolved over time from construction in 1952, commissioning, startup in Nov 1957, and operation until his retirement as a Senior Reactor Shift Supervisor in 1985. He was honoured to be present when NRU was permanently shut down in March 2018.

Embracing an active lifestyle from his riverfront home, Guy enjoyed canoeing, hiking, fishing, boating, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, skating into his late 80s, and kayaking into his 90s. His passion for helping others led him to volunteer with organizations like RBWM Historical Society/School House Museum, Algonquin Valley Branch National Association of Federal Retirees, Renfrew County Ham Radio Club, and projects in Yamasa, Monte Plata, Dominican Republic.

Guy's love for learning fueled his ability to tackle and surmount problems and challenges confidently. A keen mathematics enthusiast, avid Ham Radio operator, and computer whiz, he enthusiastically embraced technology.

Guy was grateful to all the family and friends who recently took the time to call, write, email and/or visit him to share memories of their good times together and celebrate his life with him. He always said he had a good life and felt blessed.

Guy has put away his skis, snowshoes, and hiking boots, hung up his skates, docked his kayak, shut down his computers, and– now VE3MYD is a silent key.

In accordance with Guy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be organized at a later date. Interment will be in Forest View Cemetery, Chalk River.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Guy to the “131 Community Emergency Fund” at the Deep River and District Community Foundation. https://www.drdcf.ca/donate
