Harold McCall Obituary

On Monday, July 6, 2026 at Garden Terrace in Kanata, Harold McCall of Carleton Place, died peacefully with family by his side in his 93rd year. Son of the late Marjorie McCall of Kentville, Nova Scotia. Beloved husband of Constance (Connie) McCall (nee McDowell). Loving father of the late Andrew McCall, and of Scott McCall of Scarborough and Ian McCall and his wife Tricia of Beckwith Township. Proud grandfather of Petranka (Pepi) McCall. Harold moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario in 1951, where he later met Connie and they married on September 2, 1955. Their honeymoon was cut short the following Tuesday as Harold began his policing career with Toronto Police.

After a brief hiatus from policing in 1962, when Harold & Connie moved to her native Scotland, they returned in 1963 and Harold was hired as a police constable with Toronto Township Police (now Peel Regional Police). After being promoted to Detective, he left Toronto Township for the lure of small-town country living, accepting the Sergeant’s position with Deep River Police in 1967. In 1986, Harold was promoted to Chief of Police and retired in 1994. Harold and Connie lived in Deep River post-retirement until they moved to a retirement home in Carleton Place in January 2023. He loved gardening, dachshunds and classical music which was always playing in the house (Beethoven was his favourite!). A quiet, trustworthy friend, who would not hesitate to help others or give wise counsel if asked. They attended Calvary Baptist Church in Pembroke for over 20 years, with Harold serving as deacon. Harold was defined by his faith which he displayed in day-to-day interactions with people.  He has entered into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as the Apostle Paul states in 2 Corinthians 5:8 “We would rather be away from the body, and at home with the Lord.”

Respecting Harold’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with a private burial service to follow. A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In memoriam, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds, Grenville, Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation, or Samaritan’s Purse Canada would be gratefully appreciated.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place.
