Isabell Foote Obituary

Liz (Isabell) Foote, age 82, passed away peacefully on 2025 April 22 at the Deep River Hospital after being cared for until Apr 20 by family, friends and the amazing palliative home care staff. Special thank-you to Tammy Stewart (PSW) and Dr. McVey.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Cathy Fisher; her son, Ross Avis; and her sister, Jessica Reynolds.  Liz has 6 grandchildren (Bradley, Darwin, Malia, Kristen, Morley, and Tearra-Lynn), with over 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Liz grew up in Halibury Ontario where she acquired a love for animals and farming.  She was an eccentric who quickly learned whatever she turned her attention towards. She was an artist who could play most stringed and keyboard instruments. For many years she earned her living as a musician. She loved art and created through many mediums (oils, water colours, porcelain, ceramics…). In the early 60’s she did factory work including winding motors for General Electric. She has always been a caring person and certified as a “Registered Nurses Assistant” at Canadore College in North Bay. She worked in various facilities and hospitals over the years. Easily bored, she got her Z license and with her 4’ 10” body worked in the oil patch driving big rig trucks. She then decided she’d rather be a paramedic in “the patch” so re-qualified.  In the early 80’s she was encouraged to open up a food “hut” - specialty, her fried chicken recipe. Folks would call ahead and drive 100 miles for her chicken.  Liz was mechanically inclined and on one occasion she read up on how to change the motor of her car because she couldn’t afford a mechanic, and then she changed it. This led to her doing her own brakes and much more. And when you think her skills have ended, no, she took computer bookkeeping classes to earn extra cash. Most locals would know Liz for her love of animals, gardening, and baking. She has raised many a raccoon over these last 15 years and kept the bird population in top form. She loved to bake and shared many a pie and loaf with family and neighbours. At Christmas she usually made and shared over 1000 cookies.  Liz was high strung and a unique individual.  She was loved by all who understood her caring and giving nature. She is missed.
