At Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Jacquelynn Slater (nee Smith) at the age of 83 years. Beloved wife of Bill Slater of Deep River. Loving mother of Tracy Slater (Brian Morassutti) of Owen Sound, Sharlene Daigle (Julien) of Ottawa and Scott Slater (Danielle) of Airdrie, Alberta. Cherished grandmother of Teagan, Dominic and Anthony Morassutti, Owen, Eve and Malcolm Daigle, and John and Katherine Slater. Also survived by a sister, Jayne Smith Chapman. Predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Jean (Jane) Smith, and by a sister, Carol Young.
Jacquie lived a full and joy-filled life. She especially found joy in her family, especially her eight "grands". She loved knitting blankets, sweaters, and mitts for loved ones. Fun and laughs with her closest friends, the “Group of Seven” (Elaine/Clarence, Carol Ann/Jim, Anne, and Jacquie/Bill), made for many happy memories. Jacquie loved sitting on the deck at the cottage while visiting with many family and friends. She loved games of Cribbage, Sevens and Bridge with family and friends. Visits with her niece, Kerri Rogers, and family were cherished, as well as with many other nieces and nephews. Jacquie loved socializing with people throughout town, through genealogy, playing bridge, and visiting with the many many people who had touched her life throughout the years. She volunteered throughout the community; she was her own best customer at the Hospital Gift Shop. A caring and dedicated primary teacher, Jacquie taught students in Germany, France, Chalk River, and Deep River. She remembered everyone she had ever met, including all the students she taught over the years. Jacquie has finally graduated Kindergarten.
