Official Obituary of
John Fisher
October 31, 1928 ~ June 30, 2019 (age 90) 90 Years Old
John died at the Northumberland Hills Hospital on June 30, 2019, in his 91st year. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mavis Rushall (1933-2014). Father of Angela (Stephen), Nigel (Cathy), Graham (Sylvie), Jane, and a predeceased daughter, Susan. He will be missed by his ten grandchildren Craig, Jeffrey, Tatiyana, Nadia, Larissa, Kyle, Leah, Katelin, Jake and Brendan and his three great-grandsons, Ayden, Austin, and Jack.
John was born and educated in England. He graduated with a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering in 1954 from the Northampton College of Technology. He and Mavis were married in 1954 and immigrated to Canada in 1957 to join Ontario Hydro in Toronto. They moved to Deep River in 1958 where he spent the majority of his career at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s Chalk River Laboratories, retiring in 1985 after 27 years of dedicated service.
John and Mavis were advanced level dancers at square and round dancing and together they enjoyed many evenings on the dance floor. After residing in Deep River from 1958 until after Mavis passed, John embarked on a new chapter and moved to Port Hope to be near his youngest daughter. These past four years, John was fortunate to find a second love in his life and will be missed by Elvira Gentile and her family.
John relished the sun. His summers were spent boating and exploring our Ottawa River beaches, while he delighted in spending the winters in Florida, enjoying the warmth and sandy shores.
John will be cremated as per his wishes. Friends may call at the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River on Tuesday, July 16 from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Deep River followed by interment in the Deep River Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hospital Foundations of Deep River or Northumberland Hills would be welcome.
