Lois Mary Kelly (née Ostrosser) of Astorville, Ontario passed away peacefully at the Deep River Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by loved ones after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Lois was born on January 19, 1942, in Stoney Creek, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Rhea (Jacobs) and Arthur Ostrosser.
Lois dedicated much of her life to education as a schoolteacher and coach, touching the lives of countless students along the way. Outside of the classroom, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and spending time at the family cottage.
On December 21, 1973, Lois married her beloved husband, Terry Kelly. Together they raised their daughter, Stacy Kelly Degagne. Lois and Stacy shared an indescribable bond—not only mother and daughter, but truly best friends.
Lois and Terry eventually retired to the Township of East Ferris, where they became active and cherished members of the community. Along the way, they gained a son-in-law, Pat Degagne, who became the son they never had. Lois and Pat shared a special bond, often enjoying a “breakfast beer” together while on holidays at the cottage.
Later in life, Lois proudly embraced her role as a badass gramma to her grandchildren, Hailly and Cole Degagne. She loved cheering them on at the rink and ball diamond, beating them at cards, and spending quality time together. As the family grew, Lois also welcomed two “grandchildren-in-law,” as she lovingly called them. Card games became increasingly competitive, and Lois was always ready with one of her many sayings—especially for her grandson-in-law, Brandon.
Lois treasured her summer days spent boating with Terry on Lake Nosbonsing and adored hosting family and friends at their property on the lake. During the cooler months, Saturday nights were dedicated to enjoying a bowl of Terry’s popcorn while watching her Leafs.
Lois was the architect of many unforgettable memories. She will be remembered for her firecracker personality, sharp sense of humour, and heart of gold. She touched many lives with her positive outlook on life.
Lois will be dearly missed by her husband Terry; her daughter Stacy (Pat); her granddaughter Hailly (Brandon); her grandson Cole (Takira); and her younger brothers Brian (Bonnie) and Darrell (Sara) Ostrosser, along with many nieces and nephews. She is reunited in heaven with her parents and her older brother, Wayne (Alice).
The family of Lois Kelly would like to thank Dr. Seguin, Dr. Moore, Dr. Ben Amor, Dr. McVey, Nurse Laura Ball and all the staff at both the North Bay and Deep River Hospitals. As well as the Nursing and PSW staff from Bayshore Homecare for taking such great care of her and supporting our family during this difficult time.
A celebration for Lois will be held in the Spring overlooking the lake that she loved.
