Marlene passed away peacefully with her husband at her side, in the Deep River Hospital, after a lengthy illness, in her 82nd year. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim Gibson of Stonecliffe; her son Bill Gibson (Erin) of North Bay; her daughter Kathryn Robinson (Courtney) of Ottawa; and her grandchildren, Nathan and Julia Robinson, and Jonas Gibson.
She is predeceased by her parents, Dick and Helen (McNeill) Mansell, and her brother Bill.
Marlene was born in Toronto in 1944. She spent her childhood in Timmins and North Bay. After completing vocational school in North Bay, she began her career as a teacher in Peterborough. Soon after, she met Jim and they married in 1970. They spent the next 55 years of their lives in New Liskeard, Abitibi Canyon, Mountainview Subdivision (Laurentian Hills), Renfrew, North Bay, and Stonecliffe.
In her 50s, while working full-time, Marlene enrolled in Nipissing University and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 1996.
Marlene will be remembered as a dedicated teacher, especially for her time at John XXIII School in North Bay teaching high needs students. In 2000, she retired with Jim to Stonecliffe where she spent many years volunteering as secretary for the Missing Link Snowmobile Club and as chair of the local library board. She was an avid reader and cherished her book club meetings.
A celebration of life will be held at the Deep River Public Library on Saturday, November 8th from 11 AM to 2 PM.
