Maud Elsie Nicks
The family regrets to announce that Maud Elsie Nicks, 93 years of age, died on June 7, 2021 at the Deep River and District Hospital, Deep River, Ontario.
Maud was born in 1927 in Eagle River, North Western Ontario. Her passions were family, friends, gardening and fishing. She won the annual horticultural society gardening first prize more than once and was considered the master angler of the family. It was fishing that brought Maud and her late husband Jack together in the summer of 1947 when they were both working at a fishing lodge near Sioux Lookout ON. You could say it was love at first bite.
Maud was for over twenty years the voice on the phone of the Deep River Public Works Department, serving her adopted community that she and Jack loved so much. Maud was also an active supporter of St. Barnabas and Faith Lutheran churches for many decades, and a person who lived her faith.
Maud was predeceased by her husband Jack Nicks and sister Delores Baverstock (Bell). She is survived by sisters Doris Favot, Esther Starratt and brothers Bob Bell and Ron Bell (Joanne). Maud was the loving mother of Craig Nicks (Linda) and Brian Nicks (Janet), a loving grandmother of Lynsey (Cameron), David, Charlie, Aidan and Peter (Anne) and a great-grandmother of Meredith and Ila.
The family sends its sincere appreciation to the compassionate medical staff at the Deep River and District Hospital that cared so ably for Mom. There will be no visitation due to COVID restrictions. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In memoriam, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River.
