It is with deep sadness that we announce that Murray McManus passed away suddenly at his home in Deep River on February 20, 2026 at the age of 88. Murray was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann McManus (nee Messeroll).
Murray was born and raised in Renfrew Ontario and later moved to Toronto where he graduated from the Ryerson Technical Institute. Following graduation he moved to Deep River and accepted a position as a technician at Atomic Energy of Canada where he worked for more than 30 years. Murray was incredibly proud of the work he did developing fuel channel inspection equipment and performing fuel channel inspections around the world.
It was in Deep River that he met Barbara (née Messeroll), the love of his life. Murray was a devoted husband for more than 60 years and a loving father to Maureen Peatfield (Mick) of Whistler, BC, John (Nathalie Riendeau) of Stittsville and Daniel (Tanya Ramsamy) of Kanata. He was a cherished grandfather (fondly referred to as ‘Poko’) of Hannah, David, Gabriel, Jordan, Zoe, Tiger Lilly, Véronique, and Jacqueline. He is predeceased by his older brother Terrance (Florence) and his twin sister Dianne (Victor) whom he both loved deeply.
Murray lived in Deep River for over 60 years and was deeply committed to his community. Over a 20 year period Murray served as both a Town Councillor and a Deputy Reeve.
Murray was competitive by nature and in his early years and played a variety of sports including rugby and fastball. Murray had many interests that centred around close friends (bridge night, golfing, fishing, Myrtle Beach trips, and playing Santa at the annual family Christmas parties). He also enjoyed solitary moments doing crossword puzzles, playing Sudoku and watching sports (often in his favourite chair, under the stairs, with a cold beer).
He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. In memory of Murray donations to the Deep River & District Hospital (DRDH) Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.
A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River at a later date. Details to follow.
