Phillip (Phil) Gumley
Passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at the Four Seasons Lodge in Deep River, Ontario. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, he fell in love at first sight with his future wife, Anne Ellison, while dancing to big band music at Trentham Gardens. Phillip graduated from Sheffield University and spent his early career working at Rolls Royce (marine division) in Derby. He emigrated to Canada with his family in 1974 and had a full career with Atomic Energy of Canada, settling in Deep River upon retirement. His love for sailing and building things that could not be ‘unbuilt’ became family folk-lore. His family was always his greatest joy. Phillip is survived by his wife, Anne (Ellison) with whom he enjoyed a marriage of over 63 loving years. Sons, Julian, Andrew(Penny) and Nigel(Deborah); Grandchildren Laura (David Orr), Matthew (Laura), Beckett, Fenton, Sarah (David Houston), Phillip (Kristan), Hayley, Alexander, Hanna and Erik; Greatgrandchildren William, Sophia, Lucy, August, Jacob and Lily; Brother Kenneth (Noreen Warrington). Phillip is predeceased by his older brothers Frank(Bettina Prince) and James. Loved by his companion Bendog. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Deep River Four Seasons Lodge would be appreciated.
