Randolph (Randy) Crigger
Randy showed strong determination to live under trying circumstances as a result of an unfortunate accident on May 9. He passed away peacefully at the Deep River and District Hospital while holding his mother’s hand with “Here I Am Lord” playing in the background. Randy was a cherished son of Polly Rantz and stepfather Bob Rantz and father Murray Crigger (d. 2007) and stepmother Carmen (deceased). Dearly loved brother of Pearson (B.C.), Brent (Chalk River), and Bobby (wife Lori) (Toronto), and stepbrother of Cathy Godin (Peter) (Ottawa) and Rob Rantz (Yukon). Much loved uncle of Bryce, Cameron, and Makenna Crigger. Step uncle of Darcie Godin (Alex) and Riley Godin (Sara) and cousins across Canada and the U.S., too numerous to name. Friends were a central part of Randy’s life. Randy grew up in Chalk River graduating from Mackenzie High School. He retired from a 30 year career as an iron worker in Sudbury returning to his favourite home spot of Chalk River in 2017. He was a proud honorary member of IW#786 Ironworkers Union.
Randy was an aficionado of all sports but his heart was always with the Montreal Canadiens. He was also a lover of nature and all animals.
A Mass in the presence of Ashes will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Chalk River on Monday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Mitchell Beachey officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s United Church Forest View Cemetery.
Polly, Bob and family extend special thanks for the excellent care and compassion shown to Randy and the family by the doctors and nurses at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, Ottawa General Hospital, and especially the Deep River and District Hospital. Special thanks to Murray Griese of Valley Funeral Home for his empathy and kindness shown to them at this difficult time and Father Mitchell Beachey of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Chalk River.
Donations in Randy’s memory may be made to the Deep River and District Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God has laid you see.
I took his hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
O yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, I savoured much
A loving family
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief,
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee-
God wanted me now: He set me free...
