Peacefully, at the Deep River Hospital on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026 Robert passed away at the age of 72. Robert was the beloved son of Alexandra (Alix) and Doug Leishman of Deep River and a brother to Douglas of Bowen Island, B.C. Robert is survived by his brother Douglas and an extended family of friends and relatives including the Robertson's of Jacksonville, Florida (Bill + Robin and family), Robert + Wynn and family of Langley, B.C. and the Beatty family of Oshawa including Betty (Aunt), and her two son's - Michael and Chris and their respective families. On the Leishman side he was close to his cousin Robert Begley (deceased) of Smith Falls and Robert's entire extended family including Fred & Ali Begley and their twins - Ryan and Ashlynn.
Particular thanks goes to Ann Kelly of Deep River who sat with Robert for many hours while he was confined to his hospital bed and to Peter Hart who made many visits from his Cobden area farm to provide comfort to Robert in his final days. The family also wishes to thank the many friends and neighbours who were able to visit Robert in his final days.
In Deep River, Robert was probably known as the guy with the black Lab, firstly Onyx, then Duke and finally Tika - all of whom have previously passed. Respecting Robert's wishes, a cremation will take place, with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 17th from 1-3 pm at the Bears Den, Deep River. If anyone wishes to remember Robert a donation (in lieu of flowers) to the Deep River Hospital or our local SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
