It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelley Barnsley, who left us on July 7, 2025, surrounded by love and music—just as she would have wanted.
From the moment the opening chords of ABBA’s Dancing Queen hit the airwaves, Shelley knew it was her song. A true dancing queen in her teens and beyond, she brought rhythm and joy into every room she entered. Music was the soundtrack of her life—whether it was the pop anthems of the '70s and '80s (and beyond—she always kept up with music trends), a classic love song, or belting out her favourites around the house or in the car. She didn’t just listen—she lived music, and she shared that joy with everyone around her.
Her love of music emanated through her work as a DJ with her father’s company, Daiken’s Music Machine, where, you guessed it, she got to be a part of many weddings—bringing happiness, celebration, and dance floors to life.
She had a rare gift for laughter—hers was loud, contagious, and impossible not to join in. With a quick wit and warm smile, she made others feel lighter, brighter, and more at home in the world. She had an uncanny ability to find something to laugh about, even in life’s heavier moments.
More than anything, Shelley was a woman deeply devoted to the people she loved. She was a loving wife, an extraordinary mother, a proud grandmother, a cherished sister and aunt, and a fiercely loyal friend. She built strong, lasting friendships that stood the test of time—always the first to show up, to make someone laugh, to lend a hand, or simply sit beside you with a knowing look and a can of diet Coke.
She was endlessly proud of her two daughters, Shannon Barnsley (partner Sean) and Arden Cloutier (husband Dan), and she never missed a chance to remind them how much she admired the women they had become. When she became “Meemaw,” a title she wore with pride (and a wink), her heart grew even bigger. She was absolutely smitten with her grandson Flynn—her sidekick, her sunshine, her greatest joy. Whether reading him stories, sneaking him treats, or simply snuggling close, she took the role of grandmother as seriously as she took every role in life—with heart, humor, and endless love.
Shelley also devoted many years of her life to volunteer work with Lions Club International, always looking for ways to give back and lift others up. Service wasn’t just something she did—it was how she lived.
She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Butch Daiken (Connie) and Shane Daiken (Diane), and her nieces Haley, Jane, and Charlotte Daiken.
She is predeceased by her beloved husbands Chuck Barnsley and Joe Gauthier, her brother Jeff Daiken, and her parents Joan and Keith Daiken.
She was, in every sense, our dancing queen. And we will miss her forever.
