Velma "Tootsie" Kern Obituary

Tootsie Kern

Hello out there, we're on the air, it's 'Hockey Night' tonight.

Tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.

The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.

Someone roars, "Bobby Scores!", at the good ol' Hockey Game.

Tootsie Kern (nee Lance) at the age of 79 years has left the Earth to visit the hockey greats in the biggest arena. Passing away on September 28th at the age of 79 at Miramichi Lodge.

Tootsie was an inspirational Mother and dear friend to Joanne Kern Wood (Tuck Wood) and the proudest, most loving Nana to Max, Cohen and Ollie. She is sitting beside Dick (Richard) Kern and telling him how the game should be played.

Tootsie was a dear sister to Wayne Lance (even though she always said he was spoiled) and his wife Betty of Kincardine. Predeceased by 4 brothers, who she loved beyond measure, Garry, Irving, Ronald and Tony Lance and an adored sister Margaret Stewart. She is also survived by two beloved sisters-in-law Theresa Lance of Deep River and Edith Lance of Point Alexander.

Respecting Tootsie’s wishes (because no one would go against that spitfire) cremation will take place. A mass in the presence of ashes will be celebrated in Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Chalk River (at a later date, but not during playoffs). Interment of cremated remains will be in St. Anne’s Parish Cemetery, Rapides des Joachims, Quebec.

Tootsie always stood up for the underdog, even when it seemed like the odds were impossible, so donations can be made to Sit With Me Animal Rescue (https://www.sitwithme.ca/donate/) in her honor.

Oh take me where, the hockey players, face off down the rink.

And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink.

Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and the one gigantic scream.

"The puck is in! The home team wins!", the good ol' hockey game.

It's in!

He shoots, he scores!

Henderson scores for Canada!
